BEN QUILTY

There are three reasons I made this post: 1. It’s halloween. 2. I like skulls. 3. How badass are these paintings by Ben Quilty?

KEIJI ASHIZAWA FOR FRAMA

I’m always intrigued by anything that achieves the perfect balance between form and function seemingly effortlessly. The “sutoa,” by Japanese architect Keiji Ashizawa, falls precisely into that category. The unit, made for european design agency Frama, has a minimalist structure comprised of only seven chestnut boxes and a steel frame. I’m also impressed by how [...]

METROPOLITAN MAKEOVER

The city of Pittsburgh (number one in my heart) was recently named Best of the World 2012 by Traveler Magazine. Friends don’t let friends move to San Francisco — or something like that, right? My good friend J recently packed his bags and headed west. My heart hurts today as I struggle to entertain the thought that we will no longer be able to rendezvous regularly and talk about seemingly nothing and everything for three [...]

ALL BOTTLED UP

Vintage amber medicine bottles by Westmoreland Glass. In addition to their color, I’m particularly drawn to how the back side of the bottles are angular. Someone else snatch ‘em up so that I don’t have to.
