“Doesn't our school’s HVAC system remove all of these pollutants from the air?”
No. Most HVAC systems are designed to keep us comfortable, not safe. They pull in polluted air from outdoors, which it traps inside and circulates with harmful pollutants from indoors.
For schools with HVAC systems that have been upgraded to include central air purification (e.g. central HEPA, ERV/HRV, cabinet filters, UV lights), a lot of these issues can be remedied.
